OC Music Awards has broadened the scope of awards categories to include recognition for excellence in, visual interpretation of a song – Best Music video, and our young aspiring musicians – Best Youth Artist.

Both categories are now open for submission online at ocmusicawards.com, with nomination and final award honors determined by the Awards Academy.

LOCAL BOY JAKE MCMULLEN MAKES EP TO GET INTO COLLEGE; IT WORKS

While most people pursue college to start their career, Jake McMullen began his career to get into college. The 17-year-old folk guitarist from Yorba Linda recorded his first EP, Wonder to send to colleges as a demo. With the help of local producer Barrett Slagle, a friend since childhood, McMullen went into the studio at ArtiSans Label in late summer.

The Maine were just kids when Fearless Records asked them to come to California. It was 2007, and some members of the Tempe, Arizona, pop-rock quintet were still in high school. But MySpace buzz and hooky songs with plaintive vocals led the Huntington Beach-based label to express an interest in signing them to a record deal. And so the Maine borrowed one of their parents’ Suburbans, loaded it up and drove across the desert to play a concert Fearless had booked at the Alley in Fullerton.
